エフィカシー(Self-Efficacy)を「自信（のようなもの）」と説明する方が時々います。或いは自己啓発系では「自信のつけ方」「自信の高め方」のようなものも良く見受けられます。
但し、エフィカシー(Self-Efficacy)を自信(Confidence)と訳してしまうと、エフィカシーが本来意味する所から外れてしまう可能性があります。
「エフィカシーの高め方」と「自信の高め方」は同じなのでしょうか。
いや違いますね。意味が異なるのであれば、そのため（高め方）の方法論も当然異なります。
コーチングにおけるエフィカシー(self-efficacy)の定義は「自己のゴールを達成する自己能力の自己評価」であり、自信の意味「自分で自分の能力や価値などを信じること。自分の考え方や行動が正しいと疑わないこと（デジタル大辞泉）」とは異なります。
エフィカシー(Self-Efficacy)という概念を提唱したアルバート・バンデューラ博士も’Self-Efficacy’と’Confidence’は区別して使うべきだと、著書で書かれています。
その部分を抜粋します。

“It should be noted that the construct of self-efficacy differs from the colloquial term “confidence.” Confidence is a nondescript term that refers to strength of belief but does not necessarily specify what the certainty is about. I can be supremely confident that I will fail at an endeavor. Perceived self-efficacy refers to belief in one’s agentive capabilities, that one can produce given levels of attainment. A self -efficacy assessment, therefore, includes both an affirmation of a capability level and the strength of that belief. Confidence is a catchword rather than a construct embedded in a theoretical system. 「self-efficacy とconfidence の違い」
“Self-efficacy”の構成概念は口語の“confidence” とは異なると指摘されるべきである。”Confidence”は非記述的な言葉で、信念の強さを表すが、何に対する確実性かは明確ではない。私は努力の成果が出ないことに非常に”confident”であることも可能だ。”Self-efficacy”と理解される言葉は、人がある一定の成果を成し遂げるという動作的な能力への信念である。随って、”self-efficacy”の評価は能力レベルの肯定とそれに対する信念の両方で決まる。”Confidence”は論理体系に含まれた概念というよりは標語である。どの分野においても、進歩は利害関係という現象を明確に反映する概念によって達成される。決定要因、媒介過程、多重な効果を明確にした論理に基づいている。論理に基づいた概念は言葉の理解深め正しい使い方を理解するのに役立つ。そのため、個人の働きの特性を示す用語は語彙的な好み以上の意味を持つ。

日本語訳では少し意味が取りづらいかもしれませんが、’Confidence(自信)’とは論理に基づかない標語にすぎないと言っている点は秀逸だと感じました。
